Accreditations and memberships of international academic bodies and councils authenticate quality of university programs and processes; and give visibility to the university in international academic circles. Moreover, to get accreditations from reputable bodies, university are required to raise the standards of their systems, processes, programs, faculty and infrastructure. Therefore, besides authentication and promotion, accreditations and memberships provide a guide to build university’s academic and internal support systems, like students counseling, registration, course offerings, maintaining alumnae databases, meritocracy and transparency etc.
South Asia Triple Helix Association (SATHA)
South AsiaTHA (SATHA) Chapter has been established to elicit regional growth and economic development through enhanced coordination and networking among University-Industry-Governments (UIG). By World Bank definition South Asia is the region forthe southern region of the Asian continent which is comprised of eight countries Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. With combined population of around 1.4 billion South Asia is home to world's half population of poor men and women. Best climatic conditions and geostrategic locations raise the importance of these countries. The region has wide variety of resources ranging from natural resources to sophisticated information technology resource based. The combined GDP of all eight countries is around USD 1.8 trillion and a per capita GDP is slightly over USD 1000. The area has wide educational and industrial base to uplift the economic potential of the region.
South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS)
AMDISA has awarded SBE-UMT Full SAQS Accreditation for a period of five years.
SAQS has emerged as a system which provides a quality assurance and accreditation framework based on regional and international experiences and perspectives. It uses a set of criteria developed from business and management schools of high national and international standing. Its policy is determined by a broadbased SAQS Council. The process is managed by the SAQS Committee. The major inputs for the quality assurance and accreditation process are generated by the management school found eligible for SAQS through its Self-Assessment Report. This is followed by the visit of the international SAQS Peer Review Team/Committee to the school.
Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)
The Pakistan Engineering Council is a statutory body to regulate the engineering profession in the country. Its main statutory functions include registration of engineers, consulting engineers, constructors/operators and accreditation of engineering programmes run by universities/institutions, ensuring and managing of continuing professional development, assisting the Federal Government as think tank, establishing standards for engineering products and services besides safeguarding the interest of its members.
National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC)
The purpose of NBEAC is to assure quality in Business Administration/Public Administration/Management Sciences degree programs according to the proposed accreditation in educational institutions. It requires a program to meet certain defined standards or criteria.At present, UMT MBA and BBA programs are accredited by NBEAC.
National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC)
The Higher Education Commission has set up an accreditation authority, National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC). NCEAC will look after the matter regarding the accreditation of institutions and their departments, faculties and disciplines by giving them appropriate ratings and define the organization's objectives, functions and duties to be performed. It will periodically evaluate, scrutinize and monitor the standards followed in different universities, Degree Awarding Institutions and their affiliated colleges offering computing degree programs.
At present, BS programs in computer science and software engineering are accredited by the NCEAC.
Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN)
The University of Management and Technology (UMT) is an institutional member of the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN). Institutional Members are institutions of higher education in the region that are in good standing with the relevant quality assurance agency if one exists.
The APQN has been developed with the purpose of serving the needs of quality assurance agencies in higher education in a region that contains over half the world’s population. This is a fast-growing region, with an increasing appetite for education, and with increasing mobility of students and education providers to meet that need. In turn, this makes it a region of growing and developing quality assurance agencies to deal with public and private education providers, and with education and students that cross national borders. The APQN is already helping to build alliances between agencies, and assisting countries/territories that do not have a quality assurance agency of their own.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), USA
UMT is a member of AACSB International which advances quality management education worldwide through accreditation, thought leadership, and value-added services. AACSB International members are located in more than 70 countries around the world. Members range from educational institutions offering business programs to corporate, nonprofit, and public sector organizations that desire to connect with and/or support business education worldwide. Today, there are more than 1,320 members around the globe.
Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA)
UMT is member of The Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) which was established in 1988 with the initiative of leading management development institutions in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region. AMDISA is an international not-for-profit association, and is a “SAARC Recognised Body”.
AMDISA has awarded SBE-UMT Full SAQS Accreditation for a period of five years. UMT is the 3rd university in Pakistan (besides LUMS and IBA Karachi) to get this International Quality Assurance Accreditation.
Association of Management Development Institutions in Pakistan (AMDIP)
The Association of Management Development Institutions in Pakistan (AMDIP) was formed in 2001, by a team of leading educationists and management development gurus of the country with a clear vision of management development in Pakistan. The national secretariat of AMDIP is in Lahore, Pakistan, the center of education and land of old civilization with the touch of modern era.
European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)
UMT is member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) which is an international membership organisation, based in Brussels, Belgium, with over 750 member organizations from academia, business, public service and consultancy in 81 countries. It is a unique forum for information, research, networking and debate on innovation and best practice in management development. It is recognized globally as an accreditation body of quality in management education with established accreditation services for business schools and business school programs, corporate universities and technology-enhanced learning programs.
Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS)
For over 25 years, the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS) has sought answers to HR related questions such as: What knowledge and abilities are necessary for successful HR professionals and HR departments? How are requirements and expectations evolving over time, across industries, by region?
The Human Resource Competency Study, is now focusing on asking: What impact does HR have on financial performance? What is HR’s impact on intangible measures of business performance?
HRC will be surveying a number of individuals from participating organizations. HRCS will surveying HR professionals at participating organizations; in addition, however, they will be surveying experts at the participating organizations in areas including HR, strategy, finances, information management, innovation, and mergers & acquisitions. UMT is a partner organization in this effort.
