How to apply

We welcome applications from all over the world for Undergraduate, Graduate and Postgraduate degree programs. 

UMT considers any student who does not hold Pakistan’s citizenship or permanent residency to be an international applicant; regardless of where they live or attend school. Pakistani permanent residents are those students who have an official copy of their green passport and/or NIC. If you are a dual National, then you are considered an overseas applicant.

International Students:
Also referred to as foreign students, international students are students from abroad who are enrolled for courses in Pakistani schools, colleges or universities and admitted under a temporary visa. These students’ primary intent is to obtain a Pakistani undergraduate, graduate or professional degree and return to their home countries.  It includes people born outside of Pakistani descent.
Refugee Students:
They are considered international students. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.
Overseas Students:
Expatriates, NICOP holders, Pakistani people who live outside of Pakistan. These include citizens that have migrated to another country as well as people born of Pakistani descent.

  •  Upload your academic records

Within your Admissions Profile in the relevant section, upload all required official transcripts from every high school, college, university, technical/vocational institute, or professional institution you have attended.

  • If your first language is not English:

If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide evidence of an English language qualification to demonstrate your ability. This could be an IELTS or TOEFL examination score. In case, the medium of teaching has been English at your institution please provide us with English Proficiency Certificate from your Institution/College/University.

  • Submit your Test Score

International students can submit SAT/ ACT/GMAT/GRE/ETS score if applicable, or take UMT’s online Admission Test.

  • NOC from last institution/university ( if degree is not awarded yet)
  • Degrees/Official transcript of High school, college, university, technical/vocational institute, or professional institution
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Letter of Recommendation/Reference  ( two; for PhD students only)
  • Curriculum Vitae (For students applying in MS/PhD)
  • Copy of Passport
  • Optional: English Proficiency Letter/ ILETS or TOFEL score
  • Optional: SAT/ACT/GMAT/GRE/ score

After submitting complete application, an approval email from admissions team will be received. You’ll be informed about test and interview.

  • Admission

We will notify you of the admission decision within 2-3 weeks after receiving all the required documents.

Accepting our Offer of Admission

Once Admission Offer letter is received and accepted students are advised to proceed for admission fee payments, registration and visa processing.

Students from abroad can directly deposit their fee in this account. After payment upload a picture or scanned copy of the payment slip in the required section and email at [email protected].

For degree equivalence and credential evaluation you can apply online

  • For Students applying in Undergraduate Programs:

IBCC Equivalence is mandatory for all International Students who have higher/secondary education from Abroad. Students applying for equivalence of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) (Matriculation), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) (Intermediate levels) and technical education as well as local certificates / di-plomas can apply at the mentioned link of IBCC portal.

  • For Students applying in Graduate Programs:

HEC Equivalence is mandatory for all International Students who have Bachelors/Master from Abroad. Students applying for equivalence of Undergraduate/associate degrees can apply at the mentioned link of HEC portal. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) encourages and facilitates the foreign students seeking admission in Pakistani universities. HEC also resolves student difficulties in getting NOCs, Visa and extension in Visa.
HEC with concurrence of ministries of Education, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Economics Affair Division, etc, has streamlined the admission procedure mentioned below in respect of students' admission into streams of studies other than professional subjects (i.e. MBBS, D-Pharmacy, and BS Engineering).

Admission of Foreign Students:

Foreign students seeking admission in a Pakistani university / Degree Awarding Institution have to apply for admission directly to the concerned University / Degree Awarding Institution and get the letter of confirmation of admission. The University will send a copy of the letter of confirmation of admission to HEC. The HEC will confirm and endorse admission to Ministry of Interior.

Steps for the issuance of Visa to Foreign Students:

  1. The Student will approach the Pakistan High Commission / Embassy / Mission in his native country for visa. The Student will submit
    the following documents with his application for visa:
    1. Application for admission in the concerned University / Degree Awarding Institution
    2. Confirmation of Admission letter received from the University / Degree Awarding Institution
    3. Student's Visa Form
    4. Photocopy of Passport
    5. Photographs
    6. Educational documents
  2. The Pakistani High Commission / Embassy / Mission will forward all documents to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad for further processing.
  3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will forward all documents to Ministry of Interior for security clearance and a copy each to Ministry of Education/ Directorate of Administration ICT, Ministry of Health and the HEC.
  4. Ministry of Interior will complete all process within four weeks and send visa advice to Pakistani High Commission / Embassy / Mission
    concerned and a copy each to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the HEC.
  5. HEC will send visa information by email to the University concerned and copy each to the Ministry of Education / Directorate of Administration ICT, Ministry of Health and the University.
  6. Visa will be issued by the Pakistani High Commission / Embassy / Mission in student's native country for the duration of the studies to be renewed annually subject to completion of security clearance formalities.

Steps for Renewal of Visa:

  1. The students will obtain from the University
    1. University's certification on the Visa Extension Form.
    2. Certificate that the Individual is a bonafide student of the University.
    3. Recommendation by the university to extend the visa.
  2. The student will present these papers at the concerned Passport Office for extension of visa. If papers are found in order, the Passport Office will grant extension in visa.
  3. The University / HEC's Responsibility in Respect of Foreign Students
    1. The University will inform HEC if any student leaves the University or does not remain a full-time student any longer.
    2. HEC will inform the Ministry of Interior accordingly.
